ITS A BIRD! ITS A PLANE! ITS A SUPERCOMPUTER!

On May 30, 2022, Oak Ridge National Laboratory announced their newest achievement. The Frontier supercomputer, developed by Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Hewlett Packard, and AMD, is the world's first exascale system capable of performing one quintillion calculations per second. It consumes around 21 megawatts of power, roughly the same as a small town. Supplied by the Tennessee Valley Authority, with over 40% of its energy coming from nuclear sources, Frontier supports cutting-edge research in nuclear fission, energy grid resilience, and complex simulations that shape the future of energy. With more than 37,000 GPUs and 9,400 CPUs, it represents a remarkable achievement in computational power and efficiency.
