HELEN BELYEA: TRAILBLAZER!

10:36 Helen Belyea was a pioneering Canadian geologist whose work helped shape the understanding of Western Canada's vast energy resources. Born in 1913, she joined the Geological Survey of Canada in 1945 and quickly became one of its leading experts on the Devonian System.

Belyea's research was instrumental in mapping and interpreting the sedimentary basins of Alberta, contributing significantly to oil and gas exploration in the region. At a time when few women worked in field geology, she stood out not just for her expertise, but for her dedication. Her contributions earned her numerous accolades, including fellowship in the Royal Society of Canada. Helen Belyea passed away on May 20, 1986, leaving behind a legacy of scientific excellence and inspiration for future generations.
