GOOSE CREEK OIL FIELD!

The Goose Creek Oil Field began its offshore journey on June 2, 1908. Located in Galveston Bay, signs of oil were first noticed in 1903 when bubbling water, caused by natural gas, was observed. For about two and a half years following this discovery, all drilling attempts resulted in dry wells. That changed when the first successful well struck oil at a depth of 1,600 feet, paving the way for more. Over the next decade, Goose Creek reached its peak annual production of 8,923,635 barrels from both onshore and offshore sources. While output declined over time, the field ultimately produced a total of 140,644,377 barrels.
