On July 31, 1918, Francis Edgar Stanley, one of the twin inventors behind the Stanley Steamer, tragically died in a car crash. Stanley and his brother were pioneers in steam-powered automobiles — vehicles that once rivaled early gasoline cars in speed and innovation. Their inventions pushed the boundaries of early clean transportation and helped lay the groundwork for alternative energy in mobility.
