FIRST HORIZONTAL WELL DRILLED IN OKLAHOMA

On November 4, 1989, B&B Drilling completed Oklahoma's first horizontal oil well, marking a turning point in U.S. drilling innovation. Unlike traditional vertical wells, horizontal drilling allowed operators to follow the path of the oil-bearing formation, unlocking greater access to resources and boosting production efficiency.

This breakthrough redefined how wells were designed and operated — reducing surface disruption, cutting costs, and maximizing output from challenging reservoirs. The success of this pioneering well laid the technical foundation for the shale revolution that would later transform global energy markets.

Today, horizontal drilling remains a core technology in modern oil and gas development — enabling precision extraction and advancing automation systems that continue to push efficiency to new heights.
