EXPLORER 1 LAUNCHED!

On January 31, 1958 Explorer 1 was launched from Cape Canaveral (Now Cape Kennedy). Using a Jupiter-C rocket to start the space race.

Using a fuel mixture called "Hydyne" Explorer 1 was launched into orbit with a thrust of 83,000 lbs and a burn time of 155 seconds.

"Hydyne" was a fuel consisting of 60% unsymmetrical, dimethylhydrazine and 40% diethylenetriamine. To simplify this, using the process of steam-cracking natural gas, ethylene is separated and able to be further refined. Combined with oxidizers, we were able to successfully launch a rocket into space.

Modern day propulsion methods are similar using a combination of fuel and oxidizer.
