CONTINENTAL OIL SENDS KEROSENE WESTWARD

On November 25, 1875, the Continental Oil and Transportation Company—which would later become ConocoPhillips—made a bold move that reshaped the energy industry. The company began shipping kerosene from Cleveland to Utah using early railroad tank cars, a first for the western United States.

This breakthrough marked a new era in petroleum transport, showing how rail could expand the reach of refined fuels across the nation. It also set the stage for modern oil and gas distribution systems, connecting refineries to remote markets and powering the growth of early American industry.
