CHEVRON PLATFORM ON FIRE!

07:57February 10, 1970, a fire broke out on Chevron's Platform C, located in Main Pass Block 41, approximately 11 miles east of the Mississippi River Delta in the Gulf of Mexico. The platform, positioned in 39 feet of water, experienced a crude oil discharge of approximately 65,000 barrels over three weeks. In response, about 2,000 barrels of diluted chemical dispersants were sprayed using fire monitors from a barge.

Efforts to contain the disaster prioritized stabilizing the platform and preventing further fires. This incident highlighted the challenges of managing large-scale offshore oil accidents and underscored the need for improved safety measures and environmental response strategies in the offshore drilling industry.
