Today marks 123 years since the founding of OG&E. On February 27, 1902, the Oklahoma Gas and Electric Company was incorporated, with Edward H. Cooke filing the paperwork and George H. Wheeler serving as its first president. What began as a small operation serving only Oklahoma City grew rapidly—by 1924, OG&E was powering 88 towns across the state.
By its 50th anniversary in 1952, OG&E had expanded to serve 280,000 customers in 288 communities across Oklahoma and Arkansas. Today, the company supplies energy to 900,000 customers, generating power from a mix of 67% natural gas, 22% coal, and 7% renewable sources.
