JOSEPH S. CULLINAN

Joseph Cullinan entered the oil industry at just 14, working in the Pennsylvania oil fields before spending 13 years with Standard Oil. He later founded Petroleum Iron Works, specializing in steel storage tanks, and was invited to Corsicana to advise on oil production and marketing. There, he established Magnolia Petroleum Company and the Corsicana refinery, solidifying his place in the industry.

During the Spindletop Boom, Cullinan founded the Texas Company, which later became Texaco, serving as its president until 1913. His impact on the oil industry was profound, but his life was cut short when he passed away from pneumonia on March 11, 1937, while visiting his friend Herbert Hoover in California.
