GERD DAM OPERATIONAL!

10:50 The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) is Africa's largest hydroelectric project, poised to transform Ethiopia's energy landscape. Located near the Sudan-Ethiopia border, GERD is expected to generate 5,000 megawatts of electricity, effectively doubling Ethiopia's power capacity and providing energy access to millions. On February 20, 2022 the dam began generating power even without being fully completed.

Built with 10 million cubic meters of concrete, GERD is designed to hold 74 billion cubic meters of water, making it one of the most ambitious infrastructure projects in Africa. Once fully operational, it will play a key role in regional energy security and economic growth, despite ongoing diplomatic tensions over its impact on Nile River flow.
