FIRST U.S. SOS DISTRESS CALL SENT

On August 11, 1909, the S.S. Arapahoe made history as the first U.S. ship to send an SOS distress call. Stranded off Cape Hatteras due to a broken propeller shaft, the ship's wireless operators transmitted both "CQD" (the older distress signal) and "SOS," a newer international standard at the time.

This moment marked a turning point in communication technology—showcasing the power of wireless energy to save lives and shape maritime safety. Long before satellites and cell towers, radio waves and Morse code kept humanity connected when it mattered most. A small spark that changed the course of emergency communication forever.
