TRIANGLE NO.1!

The Triangle No. 1 well, drilled by O.P. Taylor, was completed on June 12, 1879, near Petrolia in Allegany County, New York. This well marked the first commercially successful oil well in the state, igniting the oil boom in the region. Taylor, often referred to as the "Father of the Allegany Oil Field," faced numerous challenges and skepticism before achieving this success.

Triangle No. 1's production attracted attention and investment, leading to the establishment of additional wells and infrastructure. The well's impact was so significant that a sandstone boulder with a copper plate was erected at Petrolia by the New York State Oil Producers' Association to commemorate the event.
