MINER'S STRIKE!

The Coal Miners' Strike of April 1, 1922, was one of the largest labor actions in U.S. history, involving over 600,000 miners across multiple states. Led by John L. Lewis of the United Mine Workers of America (UMWA), the strike was primarily a response to wage cuts and poor working conditions in the coal industry.

The strike resulted in violent clashes, including deadly skirmishes between miners and strikebreakers, and caused a nationwide coal shortage that affected industries and households alike. President Warren G. Harding eventually intervened, urging both sides to negotiate and forming the U.S. Coal Commission to investigate miners' grievances. By August 1922, a settlement was reached, but tensions between labor and management remained high for years.
