USS Nautilus launched from Groton, Connecticut January 21, 1954 and its first voyage was a year later on January 17th, 1955 using nuclear power. Its creation due to Ross Gunn and Hyman Rickover. The sub remained in service for 25 years and was decommissioned in 1980.
