ROOSEVELT MOBILIZES AMERICA'S OIL FOR WAR

On December 2, 1942, President Franklin D. Roosevelt established the Petroleum Administration for War (PAW) — a decisive move to coordinate America's oil resources during World War II. Tasked with overseeing production, refining, and distribution, the agency ensured that Allied forces had a constant and reliable fuel supply.

Under the PAW's leadership, oil became the lifeblood of the war effort, powering tanks, aircraft, and naval fleets across multiple fronts. At home, the agency streamlined logistics and introduced fuel rationing to manage civilian consumption, ensuring that every drop of petroleum was strategically used for victory.

The PAW's success not only demonstrated the strategic importance of energy management but also laid the foundation for postwar policies that shaped America's modern petroleum infrastructure and defense readiness.
